Your air passenger rights under UK261
UK261 protects passengers on flights departing from the UK, and certain flights arriving in the UK or EU operated by UK or EU carriers. The exact scope depends on your route and airline.
UK261 compensation bands
| Flight distance | Standard compensation |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | £220 |
| 1,500–3,500 km | £350 |
| Over 3,500 km | £520 |
For certain long-haul arrival delays, £260 rather than £520 applies; rerouting after cancellation or denied boarding can also reduce the amount. Extraordinary circumstances may rule out financial compensation.
What else can you claim?
Depending on the circumstances, airlines may have duties to provide care, meals, hotel accommodation, refunds and rerouting. You can make a claim yourself, free of charge, directly to your airline.
Unresolved complaint?
After the airline’s final response or eight weeks without a response, you may be able to escalate to an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution provider or the CAA’s Passenger Advice and Complaints Team.
