Flight delayed? Understand your rights
If you arrive at your final destination at least three hours late, you may qualify for compensation under UK261 if the disruption was the airline’s responsibility.
How much can I claim?
For qualifying delays, compensation is normally £220 for flights of up to 1,500 km, £350 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km, and £520 for longer flights arriving at least four hours late. For long-haul arrival delays of between three and four hours, £260 may apply.
What if I am still waiting at the airport?
Depending on the duration of the delay and flight distance, airlines must provide reasonable food, refreshments and communications, plus accommodation and transfers when an overnight stay is necessary. If your flight is delayed by at least five hours, you can choose not to travel and seek a refund.
